Curious personality, solid computational and research experience, as well as passion for modeling and coding has brought Evgeniya Dontsova to the area of data science. In particular, the combination of desire to combine the latest advances in predictive modeling with physical understanding of complex problems and the background in mechanics naturally led her to the field of Oil and Gas.
Evgeniya is a senior research data scientist at Enovate Upstream. Her current responsibilities include application of machine learning algorithms for drilling optimization, perforation placement optimization, and log density prediction using mud logging elemental measurements of drill cuttings.
Evgeniya’s past professional experience includes two postdoctoral research appointments devoted to computational modeling of materials at the atomic scale. During the first appointment at the University of British Columbia (2013-2015) she worked on the development of diffusive molecular dynamics method that enables modeling of diffusion processes in binary alloys which is otherwise impractical with classical approaches. During her second appointment at the University of Houston (2015-2017) she performed modeling of inter-granular fracture propagation as well as studied dislocation defect glide in silicon crystals. In order to broaden her modeling skill set and improve Python coding skills, she accomplished four month data science immersive program at Flatiron School (2019). As a result, this led to capstone project devoted to crude oil price predictions using a variety of available machine learning tools.
Evgeniya co-authored over ten peer-reviewed publications in the top journals in the field of materials modeling. Besides, the published research findings were also presented at several international conferences.
Evgeniya holds a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. degree in Physics from Novosibirsk State University, Russia. She is fluent in both English and Russian languages. Currently, Evgeniya, her husband, and their toddler daughter live in Houston, Texas.
